I spoke to one of the organisers and I asked him about the national conference. “Why couldn’t they just relocate the conference in Manchester?”

He said that the EDL always try to target a city when there is a UAF national conference as a tactic to stop the UAF. meeting with trade unionists and suchlike. And, as this was the one time of year where they could get them all together, the organisers of the national conference could not reschedule.

I think Manchester UAF, English Disco Lovers and Manchester community leaders did well to mount a counter demo that size.

I live in Sunderland and I have noticed where they are meeting to plan their anti-mosque activities – it’s a pub called the Willow Pond on Hylton Road. I got a nasty shock when I went in last week, just fancied a pint, then I noticed lots of union jacks all over the place, next thing it was “would you like to sign our petition against the mosque”… on the way out I noticed a sign saying they were meeting on wednesday evening to plan their weekend demo… time for me to find another boozer…
