Crivvens! Jings! And Help Ma Boab! The March for England have been desperately pretending that their small, soggy and dismal do in Brighton was some sort of achievement but, as ever, they fail to convince. They think that their 400 yard stumble was a ‘victory’ whilst conveniently forgetting the presence of 100s of cops who were there to protect them from ten times the amount of anti-fascists who lined the streets and made MfE look tiny and a little bit rubbish.
Although plod kept control for a couple of hours they soon lost it when they directed the MfE down Queen’s Street and anti-fascists managed to break through for a chat. Plod pushed some of us back up towards the station and an impromptu barricade was built although plod could have nipped round the other side and kettled everyone. Oh well! Several small groups of fascists had stayed away from the MfE march, preferring to express their patriotism by drinking heavily in the morning. A few were apprehended by the black bloc in the lanes and had their Brighton rock confiscated. At The Dorset bar several MfE were caught out by anti-fascists and started chucking chairs about when suddenly a large group of black bloc came round the corner and gave them quite a turn. Of course, the black bloc were well covered up unlike the MfE whose grizzly mugs are currently on Youtube being scrutinised by plod. No doubt these eejits will be enjoying an early morning cuppa down the station soon.
The MfE had been threatening to ‘disguise’ themselves as black bloc but spreading this rumour all over Facebook immediately exposed it as bollocks. On the day a few MfE had turned up with black hoodies but also white trainers and blue jeans (but no moonbeams). We saw one with an EDL hoody with gaffer tape over the logos.
Several MfE were nicked before they even got to the march after kicking up a fuss at Gatwick airport, one of the most heavily policed airports in Europe. They had been drunkenly and racially abusing people so wasted a whole lot of time, energy and money by being total fuckbugles. Several more were nicked on the way back for similar idiocies.
So, what did the MfE achieve? Well, 2 things: firstly, they showed that they are getting smaller every year and cannot gather numbers due to factionalism; and 2nd, that anti-fascists can manage to mobilise 1,000 people in the south-east alone to confront them. There are calls to turn next years’ March For Entropy day into a city-wide Fascist Free Festival with Brighton Anti-Fascists, Stop MfE, UAF, Cowley Club, Punx Picnic, Trades Council and other local faith and community groups organising events autonomously: stalls, gigs, meet-ups, demos, exhibitions and banner drops can all be organised for the day with little central organisation. Why not? Be Seeing You!
